I am drifting these words toward you
through streets paved and crossed
by and with
cold faces eroding under my touch
reaching down past the layers
to the truth of soil and rock
and all things that existed
long before my skin covered
bones.

I am drifting these words toward you
through dust covered planks of buildings
trodden by the soles of souls
whose lives I know only from
fragmented echoes writ upon
scraps of paper
imagined, bound and organized
mimicking the graves of the hands that
once writ them.

I am drifting these words toward you
though steam and static,
cog and gear and gas and oil -
under tread toward destinations
desolate and monumental
criss-crossing , burrowing and
climbing towards never and Nirvana,
passing through heartless steel
and its blind creator's eye.

I am drifting these words toward you
across my ever-evolving definition,
rising and falling
to canvas, cover and touch
through a thought derived and deemed
unknown but felt
as I become flesh and cease drifting,
settling effortlessly
within the fabric of your soul.
